Typography

When used consistently typography conveys the voice of Aize across all communication channels. The fonts for Aize are Karelia (headlines) and Noto Sans (longer texts).

Karelia Regular

Karelia Regular is our signature font; a single weight sans serif typeface with a strong personality. Karelia Regular is used mainly for headings and larger texts.

Font 1

Noto Sans

Noto Sans is our secondary brand font. This font is used for body copy, captions, sub-headings and longer texts.

Font 2

Karelia Regular Italic & Noto Sans Italic

There are italic versions of both the main fonts.

Fallback fonts

When our brand fonts cannot be used, Arial is a system font alternative to Karelia and Noto Sans.

Typographic hierarchy

We must always communicate clearly and consistently. Hierarchy is a very important tool for written communication. When designing it is important to bear in mind whether people are going to read the text close up or from a distance. Combining the right font weights, sizes and colours creates layouts that make it easy for the reader to understand the intended message. Different types of communication should be considered independently but there are a few general rules that typography should follow.

Type hierarchy & color

Headings should use Karelia Regular to clearly convey the Aize brand. Headings should be large with linespacing at approx 1.2x the type size. Headings should always be much larger than the body text to help establish a clear hierarchy of information.

Body text should use Untitled Serif with a generous linespacing to aid legibility, especially on digital surfaces.

For each distinct region of a design choose one key colour palette and use only the colours within that palette, plus black and white as needed. Never mix colours from different palettes within one distinct design region.

Larger headings can appear in colour as long as they are clearly legible against the background. Black or white is best for body copy, as it offers the greatest contrast to the background.

Color issues to avoid

It’s important to adhere to some key rules to avoid legibility issues. Universal Design principles must always be used to ensure as many people as possible can navigate through our content. In edition to the rule about never mixing colors from different palettes, it’s also important to avoid mixing colors that create legibility issues.

Type 03

Never mix colors from different palettes. Ensure colors conform to Universal Design principles.

Fallback font use for email

Aize’s email signatures cannot use the house fonts (Karelia and Untitled Serif) so system fonts must be used that are common to all operating systems.
